Agriculture



·                                 Agriculture and allied sectors contribute nearly 14.2 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while about 58.8.per of the population is dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. The agricultural output, depends on monsoon as nearly 55 per cent of area sown is depends o n monsoon as nearly 55 per cent of area sown is dependent on rainfall.   

·                                  The combined efforts of Central Government and State Governments and the farming community have succeeded in achieving record production of 259.29 million tons of food grains during 2011-12. This was the highest ever food grain production. In 2012-13, despite erratic and deficient monsoon, the production of food grains was 255.36 million tons (as per the 4th Advance estimates).
