Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana

The scheme was launched in 2001-08 for the XIth plan to incentivize states to enhance investment in Agriculture and Allied sectors to achieve 4 percent growth rate during the plan period and to empower States to select, plan, approve and execute growth generating interventions and build agri- infrastructure as per their priorities and agro- climatic requirements.

Some of the recent initiatives by the Agriculture Ministry under RKVY are.

Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India (BGREI) : This sub-scheme of RKVY was started in 2010- 11 targeting  the   improvements in the  rice based cropping system in Eastern states with the objective of increasing crop  productivity through promotion of recommended agricultural technologies and package of practices.

National Mission for Saffron (2010-11): Started with the objective to bring economic revival of Saffron farming in J&K.

Nutri- Cereals: Provision of Rs. 175 crore was made for the year 2012-13 to promote production of millets like Jowar, Bajra, and Ragi etc. by upgrading their processing technologies and create awareness regarding their health benefits.

Accelerated Fodder Development Programme: To accelerate the production of fodder through intensive promotion of technologies and to ensure its availability throughout the year, this Programme is being taken up in 25000 villages. Vegetable Initiatives for Urban Clusters a(2012-13)
Promotion of oil palm (2011-12)
National Mission for protein Supplement (2011- 12) : To promote animal based protein production through livestock development ,dairy farming ,piggery ,goat rearing and fisheries in selected areas.
Vibdarbha Intensified Irrigation Development Proggramme (2012-13)
PPP for Integrated Agriculture Development Programme (2012- 13)
Nutri farms: To introduce new crop varieties that are rich in micro- nutrients like iron bajra, protein rich maize etc.

National Food Security Mission

NFSM was started in 2007-08 with the aim to produce20, million tones additional Rice, Wheat and pulses to meet the projected consumption requirements of food grains. The mission covers about 13 million hectare of Wheat, 20 million hectare of Rice and 98 per cent of pulses area.

NFSM is presently being implemented in 561 districts 0f 27 states. In the 12th plan period ,the programme aims to achieve 25 million tones  of additional food grains i.e. 10 million tones of rice ,8 million tones of wheat , 4 million tones of pulses and 3 million tones of coarse grains . 

A new initiative –Accelerated Pulses Production Programme (A3P) –has been launched as part of NFSM pulses from 2010-11. It has been conceptualized for active propagation of key technologies such as INM and IPM in a manner that creates catalyzing impact by assuring farmers of higher returns from the identified crops of pulses.

National Horticulture Mission
In order to harness the potential of Horticultural crops DAC is implementing NHM since 2005-06 in 18 states and 3 UTS covering 382 potential districts. Other states are covered under Horticulture States (HMNEH).

During 2012-13, India produced horticulture products of 260 million tones as per 3rd Advance estimates. The country is the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world.
National Bamboo Mission
In order to harness the potential of bamboo crop Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture has launched a Centrally Sponsored Scheme called national Bamboo Mission in 2006-07.

The activities being  supported for increasing productivity and quality of Bamboo under the mission are increasing area under bamboo  cultivation , mass production of quality planting material of  recommended species , improvement of existing stock ,pest and disease management , improved post-disease   management  , development , improved post-harvest management , development  of human resources and of mark9ing facilities.
